Privacy Policy

Deen Duel is an educational Islamic trivia app. We collect only what we need to make the game work, we never sell your data, and we never will.

1. Who We Are

Deen Duel ("we," "us," or "our") is an independently developed educational application available at deenduel.com and through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. If you have any questions about this policy, contact us at deenduelbusiness@gmail.com.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the minimum information needed to operate the app:

Display name: The nickname you choose when you play. This is visible to other players in multiplayer matches.
Game progress data: Your XP, achievements, streaks, flashcard stats, and session history. This is stored locally on your device and, if you create an account, synced to our database.
Account information (optional): If you sign in with Google or email, we store your email address and a user ID to link your progress across devices. Sign-in is optional — you can play anonymously.
Usage data: We collect anonymised events (e.g., "game started," "flashcard viewed") to understand how the app is used and improve it. This data is not linked to your identity.
Device information: Standard technical data such as device type, operating system version, and crash reports, collected automatically to maintain app stability.

We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, microphone, or any other sensitive device data.

3. How We Use Your Information

To run multiplayer matches and display leaderboards within the app
To save and restore your progress and achievements
To improve the app based on aggregated, anonymous usage patterns
To fix bugs and crashes using error reporting data
To respond to your support requests

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating and improving Deen Duel.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only with the following trusted service providers, solely to operate the app:

Supabase — database and authentication hosting (servers located in the US/EU)
Render — web server hosting
Anthropic — AI features (AI Tutor, AI Quiz). Queries you send to the AI tutor are processed by Anthropic's API. Do not include personal information in tutor queries.
PostHog — anonymous product analytics
Sentry — crash and error reporting

Each provider is bound by their own privacy policies and data processing agreements. We do not share your data with any other third parties.

5. Children's Privacy

Deen Duel is designed for users of all ages, including children in Islamic school settings. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 beyond what is described above (display name and game progress). We do not show advertisements, and the app does not contain any content inappropriate for children. Parents or guardians who believe we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13 may contact us at deenduelbusiness@gmail.com to request deletion.

6. Data Storage and Security

Your game progress is stored locally on your device. If you create an account, it is also stored in our Supabase database, which uses industry-standard encryption at rest and in transit (TLS). We follow reasonable security practices, but no system is perfectly secure. Anonymous play data is never linked to any account.

7. Your Rights and Choices

Play anonymously: You can use Deen Duel without creating an account. No personal information is required.
Delete your account: Email us at deenduelbusiness@gmail.com and we will delete your account and associated data within 30 days.
Access your data: You may request a copy of the data we hold about you by emailing us.
Opt out of analytics: Anonymous analytics can be disabled in the app's settings (if available) or by contacting us.

If you are located in the EU or UK, you have additional rights under GDPR/UK GDPR, including the right to rectification and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

8. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it longer. Anonymised analytics data may be retained indefinitely as it cannot be linked back to you.

9. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top and, where appropriate, notify you within the app. Continued use of Deen Duel after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
